The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team dropped two home contests last week.

Webster City 3, GHV 2

The match against Webster City came down to the wire on Monday, May 15.

The score was tied, 2-2, for the last 20 minutes of regulation and than went into two overtimes.  The game came down to a shootout, which the Cardinals lost, 3-2.

“We played extremely well, I was really proud of the young men,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “They didn’t give up and really gave it their all.  I don’t like going to PKs, because you just never know.”

Nick Joynt played 100 minutes in goal and had five saves and three goals scored against him.

Ryan Meyers, Connor Burke and Jonah Albertson all had one goal apiece.  Burke and Albertson had one assist apiece.  Dane Whipple, Alex Mary, Albertson and Seth Miller all made a PK in the shootout.

Humboldt 5, GHV 3

Humboldt was a tough opponent for the Cardinals on Friday, May 12.

“Humboldt has some really good players that can control the middle and they play tough,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “We didn’t play our best and it seemed we were playing slow and tired most of the match.”

Nick Joynt played 80 minutes in goal and had nine saves.

Ryan Meyers had one goal and Connor Burke had a goal and one PK.

GHV has two more regular season matches and meets Clear Lake again for the first round of sub-state.

“I would love it if our town would come out and support us and truly see some good soccer,” said Williams.
