Cards place third at home tournament

Despite plenty of rainy days, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team got some matches in last week.

Humboldt, 2, GHV 1 (Shootout)
It took a shootout to determine the winner of the GHV vs. Humboldt match on Thursday, May 1. The Wildcats won the match by one-goal, 2-1.

“It is always hard to loose this way,” said Coach Josh Banse. “Humboldt is a good team. The defenses for both teams played lights out.”
Mackenzie Haag scored the Cardinals lone goal on an assist from Emily Spilman.
Payton Bamrick and Autumn Prehn attempted the shootout goals.
Goal keeper Shelby Rayhons had seven saves.
“Shelby has done a nice job stepping in while Sam Betz has been injured,” said Banse.

GHV Tournament

GHV opened the day by playing Clear Lake. The Cardinals held the Lions to only one goal, unfortunately, GHV couldn’t find the net at all, as they fell, 1-0.
Banse praised the play of Maddie Tusha, Brooklyn Laird, Autumn Prehn, Mackenzie Van Gerpen and Sydney Childress for stepping up the defense against a tough Clear Lake team.
