Charles B. Crane, 59, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.
A celebration of life was held at the Lakeside Room in the Band Shell in Clear Lake on Saturday, May 14, 2016. In memory of Charlie’s favorite past time, Clear Lake Boats will provide their excursion boat for a ride around the lake on June 11, 2016 at 7 p.m. for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Clear Lake Yacht Club Sailing School or the Clear Lake Historical Society.
Charlie was born Jan. 12, 1957, the son of Charles W. and Mary Jane (Sartain) Crane. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1975 and attended Mankato State University.
Charlie lived on the lake in Clear Lake most of his life. His love for lake activities guided him into a career working as a boat technician. He started his career with Kemmerer Marine and finished working for Clear Lake Boats after retiring in 2014. Charlie’s love of the lake included boating, sailing, scuba diving, ice boating, and ice fishing. When off the lake he enjoyed snow skiing.
Charlie is survived by one sister, Liz (Darrell) Horn, West Des Moines, Iowa; and two nieces, Alissa (Ben) Bart, Chicago, Ill. and Abby (Kyle) Hrodey, Waukesha, Wis.; and one aunt, Dodo Brown, St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Crane and father, Charles W. Crane; and one brother-in-law, Craig Vriezelaar.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
