City to begin tree trimming operation

The City of Clear Lake’s Public Works department will begin tree trimming operations on Monday, July 25,  and continue throughout the year as time permits.

City crews will be trimming trees within the City’s street right-of-way (between the sidewalk and back of curb), including alleys, in compliance with applicable City Code provisions to ensure vehicular and pedestrian clearance to ensure that visibility of traffic signs is not obstructed.  Trees located outside of the city rights-of-way (private property), which have low hanging limbs and branches that overhang into the rights-of-way, may also be trimmed.  Code provisions require that all branches and limbs are at least 14-feet above the traveled portion of the street and 10 feet above sidewalks.

Public Works Director Joe Weigel explained, the City’s sole objective is to meet safety concerns, not to achieve visual balance or aesthetics.  If you wish to contract with a private, licensed, tree trimmer, at your own expense, the City encourages you to do so.
