CL girls fall to 4th ranked Mohawks

The Clear Lake girls basketball team opened the season under tough conditions Friday.  They were on the road and on the court of the number four ranked (4A) Mason City Mohawks.  Mason City overpowered the Lions, 92-36.
    “We knew it would be a struggle.  With their experience and abilities it was going to be difficult to match up,” said Lions’ first year Head Coach Bart Smith.
    The Mohawks were led by junior point guard Jadda Buckley, who recently announced her intention to play for Iowa State after graduation from MCHS.  Friday she was 10/10 from the field and 2/2 at the free

    Mason City held a 27-10 advantage after one quarter and were in control 51-18 at the half.
    Coach Smith said that despite giving up 92 points, he was pleased with the half court defense his team executed. 
    “When we were able to execute our game plan and use the half-court defense it was pretty good.  Problem was, their press and our turnovers gave them a lot of scoring opportunities,” said Smith.
    Junior Megan Loux topped the Lions in scoring with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers.  Meg Monson, the teams’ only senior, had eight points on 4/7 shooting.  Kaitlyn Pitzen and Kristen Hewett finished with five points apiece.  Pitzen was 2/4 from the field and 1/2 at the line.  Hewett collected all of her - Read More Via e-Edition
