CL girls tennis team scores a pair of wins; move record to 4-1

The Clear Lake girls tennis team picked up a pair of wins last week over Osage and Hampton, improving their record to 4-1.

“We are getting better at making adjustments and fighting for every point,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.

CL 6, Osage 3

The Lions won the first four singles matches and the same players teamed up for wins in doubles, helping the Lions to a 6-3 victory Tuesday, April 11.

Gretchen Jones set the tone for the night, as she easily defeated her opponent 10-1 in the number one singles match.  Kiersten Baalson followed suit with steady play to win, 10-5.  Chloe Mueller kept her patience and outlasted Hailey Gentz, 10-6.  After being down 5-8, Maranda Harrison made adjustments and refused to give up, eventually winning 11-9.

CL 8, Hampton-Dumont 1

Hampton-Dumont escaped with only one singles win, as the Lions dominated the match on Thursday.

Clear Lake was playing without its number one player, Gretchen Jones, but Kiersten Baalson stepped up and won the opening match, 10-5.  Chloe Mueller, Maranda Harrison, Ali Witt and Irene Swanson also posted victories.  The Lions also won two of the three doubles matches, with the Bulldogs forfeiting the third.
