CL golf team advances to Districts
The Clear Lake Boys Golf Team traveled to Decorah Friday, looking to advance through Sectionals and earn a berth to the District golf meet this Friday at Wavlery. The team got off to a great start the first nine holes, leading by five strokes over Decorah heading to the back nine. The Lions played steady the back nine, but struggled to take advantage of good opportunities and were edged by two strokes.
Decorah claimed the Sectional title with a 309 total score. The Lions advanced by finishing second with a 311 for the 18-hole Sectional tournament.
Leading the Lions was Dane Waldron, with a runner-up finish at 73. Next up was the Storbeck brothers, Tanner and Thomas, with a pair of 79’s, and Kyle Calaguas with an 80. Jon Carew carded an 85 for the Lions and Austin Rurup had a 91.
“This time of year it’s survive and advance and the team knows it’s down to crunch time,” Interim Coach Mike Oimoen said, filling in for Head Coach Eric Perry who is dealing with health issues. “We have our hands full heading into Friday. Gilbert, Webster City and Decorah are great teams and a State Tournament bid is on the line and the team knows that. We have a great group of guys and they know what they need to do to achieve their goals.”
