Clarice A. Skyrme

Clarice “Mike” Nelson Skyrme, age 88, of Faribault, Minn. passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at her residence.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.  Interment will be at Memorial Park in Mason City, Iowa.

        Clarice Arleen “Mike” Michaels, was born on May 20, 1928 in Rossie, Iowa, to Carl (a barber) and Louise (a former school teacher) Michaels.  The family moved to Everly, Iowa, where “Mike” attended public school.  The family then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa, where she graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1945.  She married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Nelson, in June of the same year.  After Lynn was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1948, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Lynn attended Drake University.  They later moved to Clear Lake in 1963, where their children graduated from Clear Lake High School.

Mike married Wayne E. Skyrme in 1979 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  They both worked at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

Mike enjoyed baking, playing piano, sewing, her bridge club, and traveling with Wayne.  She loved animals and could often be seen “down at the dock” with her dog and grandkids.

        Clarice, who was an only child, is survived by her children, Linda (Jeff) Nelson Ferguson Kirkpatrick, of Dundas, Minn., Craig (Tricia) Nelson, of Creede, Colo. and Kimberly (Larry) Thompson, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Lesley (Jeff) Ferguson Bush, of Woodville, Wash. Jeffrey (Heather) Ferguson, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Coleman Nelson and Caleb Nelson, both of Durango, Colo., Cameron Nelson, of Boulder, Colo., Gregory (Nikki) Thompson, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lindsey Thompson, of Shohomish, Wash.; and great grandchildren, Landon, Larissa, Lydia and Logan Bush, Caydance Ferguson, and Ike Thompson.

The family of Mike is grateful for the care she received at Faribault Senior Living.
