Clear Lake Bakery adding workforce to meet growing demand
Clear Lake Bakery, proud manufacturer of cookies for a variety of esteemed companies, including Michael’s Bakery Products LLC and Bonzers, is growing rapidly.
“We are adding more lines in 2016 and our sales are expected to double from 2014,” said Elizabeth Mann, director of operations. “The workforce is also projected to continue to increase.”
The primary customer base for Michael’s Bakery Products are major hotels all over the world. The company expanded here in 2014 to add product lines, such as dough pucks which will be sold to restaurant chains and in-store bakeries in grocery stores. Moving into the Clear Lake facility allowed the company a full bake line and equipment that was already in place.
The staff of 50-65 employees at The Clear Lake Bakery produce and sell cookie dough pucks, tubs of dough and already baked and wrapped products. The staff works around the clock, with a 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. shift, a 2:30-11 p.m. shift and the sanitation team from 11 p.m.-6 a.m.
“Our customers are looking for the best quality products,” said Don Cooksey, owner of Michael’s Bakery Products LLC. “We, in turn, are looking for associates who take pride in their work and want to produce the best production cookies in the world right here in Clear Lake.”
“We won’t sacrifice quality for growth,” added Mann. “Giving our esteemed customers the best products we can with the best ingredients we can is what is important to us.”
Mann and Cooksey are both from San Diego, Calif. The pair have been tag-teaming since Michael’s Bakery Products LLC moved into the Clear Lake Bakery facility at 2205 6th Ave. S. in 2014 to get things going. Henry Savoy serves as the operations manager at the Clear Lake site.
The company is audited every year to ensure the customers are getting the highest quality of products and they have obtained a SQF Level 2 rating. The company is also gluten free certified.
