Clear Lake boys track team peaking at the right time

The Clear Lake boys appear to be peaking at the right time.  The Lions had several strong performances at the Hackbarth Relays held in Algona Monday, May 1.  Denver edged Algona for the team title, with 109 points to 104.  Forest City was a close third with 102.  Humboldt and the Lions were next with 84 and 52 points respectively.  The field also included Bishop Garrigan, Eagle Grove, Emmetsburg and Okoboji.

Zach Lester posted a personal best high jump measuring 6’2” to win the event in Algona.  The  Distance Medley was also first with it’s best time of the year, a 3:47.38.  Lester anchored the relay, which also included Speed Toyne, Nick Eggers and Karter Anderson.

Ike Branstad also won the 3200 in his personal best time of the year, 10:46.04.

“We are excited to finish our year strong and see how many kids we can get to Des Moines,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach.

Other place winning performances included:

•400: Will Kirschbaum, sixth, 56.50

•110 hurdles: Parker Crispin, third, 15.43

•400 hurdles: Lester, sixth, 59.40

•4x100: Toyne, Anderson, Luke Eggers, Nick Eggers, fifth, 46.92

•4x200: Toyne, L. Eggers, Anderson, N. Eggers, fourth, 1:36.30

•Sprint Medley: Toyne, L. Eggers, N. Eggers, Anderson, third, 1:41.35

•Shuttle hurdle: Mitchell Raber, Kirschbaum, Lester, Crispin, fifth, 1:05.02

•4x100.25: Max McKenna, Dalton Mennenga, Joey Monson, Jare

Junior varsity

Brody Kuhlmeier won the high jump with a leap of 5’2” and Zane Anderson was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.46 to lead the Lion placements in JV competition.  Kade Hambly placed fifth in the discus with a mark of 92’5” and Josiah Theis was sixth in the 400 dash in a time of 1:13.79.

In relay events, the 4x100.25 relay with Hambly, Austin Larson, Ryan Thomas and Cameron Levenhagen was second in 55.90.  The distance medley team of Larson, Hambly, Anthony Aragon and Kanon Goeman was fourth in 4:43.69.

The 4x100 relay was fifth in 52.68.  That relay featured Connor O’Tool, Dalton Grell, Jaylen DeVries and Isiah Smith. The Sprint Medley was fifth with Smith, DeVries, Raber and Kuhlemeier running a 1:54.99.  The 4x200 was seventh, with Larson, Hambly, Thomas and O’Tool clocking a 1:55.38.  The 4x400 was eighth in 4:40.57.  That relay included Theis, Nick Currier, Aragon and Goeman.
