Clear Lake competes at State Track Meet

Zach Lester led the local contingency at the State Track Meet in Des Moines last weekend. The Clear Lake junior came home with a medal.  He placed sixth in the Class 2A high jump, clearing 6’2”.

As a result of having three events to participate in on one day, Lester decided to scratch himself from the 400 hurdles in order to be his best in the Distance Medley relay.

Coach AJ Feuerbach explained the Lions’ Distance Medley experienced some misfortune.

“We were in lane one, which is the only track in the state that high school kids run on that has a metal rail on the inside of lane one.  Nick Eggers got too tight to the rail and stepped on it and went down.  We were disqualified.”

high hurdles.  In his all-out effort Crispin did not have a clean run and finished 20th in the field in a time of 15.80.

“We are thrilled Zach Lester placed sixth in the high jump Friday,” said Coach Feuerbach.  “We came up short on our goal of a couple more placers, but it can’t overshadow the great improvement we saw this year.  Our three seniors Grant Dieken, Parker Crispin, and Nick Eggers led by example with their hard work and great attitudes.  We wish them the best in their futures and we are excited for what we have returning. We believe there are possibly some talented eighth graders coming in.”

The Clear Lake girls qualified one event for State.  The shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Amos, Bella Parker, Ashley Archer and Makia Fessler got off to a rough start, with Amos falling over the first hurdle.  They went on to place 24th in 1:16.24.

“We knew going into the race that we had to go for it all to make the finals,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann.  “The girls’ hearts were in it, but came up short.  I was very proud of their efforts all year long.”
