Clear Lake girls are hitting their stride

The Clear Lake girls track team is hitting its stride with two track meets last week.

Lynx Relays

Sprinter Macy Mixdorf led the way for the Clear Lake girls at the Lynx Relays in Webster City Thursday, April 21.  Mixdorf finished second in the 200 meters in 28.68, fifth in the 100 in 13.71, helped the 4x200 relay to a fourth place finish and the 4x100 to sixth place. Competing in the 4x200 was Ashley Archer, Kayla Ritter and Megan Merfeld, running a 1:57.23.  The 4x100 had Kaylee Nosbisch, Archer and Merfeld.

Archer also scored team points with sixth place in the long jump with a mark of 13’9” and was part of the shuttle hurdle team which placed third.  Other relay members were Joslyn Gannon, Ritter and Talie Tesar, running a 1:14.76.  Tesar also placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:15.38 and fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.66.

The Lions’ Distance Medley team of Nosbisch, Merfeld, Lee and Emilie Jandebeur was fifth in 4:53.32.  The 4x400 with Ritter, Jandebeur, Mallory Leisure and Tesar was sixth in 4:54.92.

Alena Gabrielson placed sixth in the 3000 meter run in 13:52.34.

Junior varsity

A limited number of Lion underclassmen participated in junior varsity races at Webster City. Selena Borrill picked up a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 12’2” and was part of the 4x200 which placed second in 2:09.89.  Other members of the really were Laura Rose, Rachel Barillas and Mikayla Vanderploeg.  The 4x100 relay with Olivia Amos, Gannon, Borrill and Barillas was third in 59.31.  The Sprint Medley team of Gannon, Barillas, Rose and Mallory Leisure was fourth in 2:19.62.

Individually, Barillas was fifth in the discus with a toss of 58’6” and Katie Tofte was third in the shot put with a mark of 26’7.75”.

Cardinal Relays

The Lions were at Garner Tuesday, April 19.  Macy Mixdorf again had a good night, collecting 10 points for the team.  The Lions placed seventh in the eight-team field with 58 points.  Mixdorf was fourth in the 100 in 13.76 and fourth in the 200 in 28.44. She also joined Kaylee Nosbisch, Kayla Ritter and Megan Merfeld to place fourth in the 4x200 in 1:59.98.  The 4x100 with Mixdorf, Nosbisch, Ashley Archer and Merfeld was fifth in 57.56.

In middle distance events, Sharrell Lee was fourth in the 400 in 1:09.72 and Mallory Leisure was fifth in the 800 in 2:53.04.  Tallie Tesar placed fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:17.78 and was eighth in the 100 hurdles in 17.76.  The shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Amos, Archer, Ritter and Tesar was fourth in 1:15.57.

In field events, Archer nabbed third place in the long jump by leaping 13’11”. Amos was seventh in long jump with a mark of 12’6”.  Mikayla Vanderploeg was seventh in shot put, 29’9”.

•4x400: Ritter, Lee, Leisure, Tesar, sixth, 5:01.10

•Sprint medley: Nosbisch, Lee, Merfeld, Jandebeur, fifth, 2:10.92

•Distance medley: Nosbisch, Laura Rose, Leisure, Jandebeur, sixth, 5:08.08

GHV hosts Cardinal Relays

The Cardinals placed sixth in an eight-team field when they hosted the Cardinal Relays on Tuesday, April 19. Central Springs won the meet with 156 points.  GHV scored 84.50 points.

Jillian Heitland had a good night for the Cards, placing second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.84 and she was third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.22.  She was also part of the third place shuttle hurdle team who ran the race in 1:13.59.  Other members of the relay were Miranda Jackson, Maddie Williams and Mara Anderson.

Two relays placed second.  The sprint medley team of Jayden Hughes, Leah Meinders, Jacki Van Oort and Sadie Oulman finished with a time of 2:00.54.  The distance medley team of Van Oort, Amanda Bierle, Oulman and Williams finished in 4:48.57.
