Clear Lake girls beat Mason City by a single stroke, 196-197

The Clear Lake girls golf team opened its season Monday, April 11, at the Mason City Country Club against Mason City. Clear Lake won by a single stroke, 196-197.  The Lions’ Emily Snelling was the medalist with a 40.

Other counting scores for Clear Lake included: Ashley DeLong, 45; Jordyn Barragy, 52; and Mattie Krause, 59.

“This first meet against Mason City is always a fun competitive one.  Alot of the girls know each other, and so it’s just a good meet for the younger unexperienced girls to get the nerves out of the way,” said Coach Adam Brinkmann.    “It was also a chance to watch a great match up between Emily and Mason City standout golfer Sydney Eaton.  The weather conditions weren’t ideal, as it was cold and very windy, but it was good to see the girls battle through the conditions and finish with pretty reasonable scores  for our first meet of the year.”

The Lions didn’t have enough players to count as a team score for junior varsity.  However, Marissa Olk carded a 70, Grace Hartnett 71, and Madison Gochanour 77.

The Lions were slated to play at home Tuesday against Newman, Friday at Webster City, and Saturday at New Hampton.
