Clear Lake girls compete at Hannover Relays

The Clear Lake girls track team was at Algona Tuesday, April 11, to compete in the Hannover Relays.  Host Algona ran away with the team title with 97.50 points.  Humboldt was the runner-up with 139.  The remainder of the field included: Manson NW Webster (92), Lake Mills (88.50), Bishop Garrigan (88), Webster City (73) and Clear Lake (48).

The Lions had two placewinners in the 100 meter hurdles.  Makia Fessler was third in a time of 17.70 and Olivia Amos took sixth in 18.47.  Amos was also part of the third-place shuttle hurdle relay team along with Bella Parker, Ashley Archer and Tali Tesar.  The relay clocked a 1:14.40.

Three Lions placed in two individual events apiece.  Sprinter Macy Mixdorf was fifth in the 200 in 28.13 and eighth in the 100 in 13.84.  Middle distance runner Riley Cooney was sixth in the 800 in a time of 2:51.22 and eighth in the 400 meters in 1:08.05.  Distance runner Alena Gabrielson was fifth in the 300 in 12:52.27 and sixth in the 1500 in 6:02.81.

Tali Tesar earned a point for the team with an eighth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:23.83.

In the field events, Archer took seventh place in the long jump. She had a leap of 13’11”.

Three Lion relays finished in fifth place.  The 4x200 with Kaylee Nosbisch, Gabby Gonzalez, Archer and Mixdorf crossed the finish line in 1:58.99.  The 4x400 featured Sharrell Lee, Sky Toyne, Halie Westendorf and Cooney running a 4:51.32.  The sprint medley with Parker, Gonzalez, Mixdorf and Toyne ran a 2:06.43.

The 4x100 team of Parker, Gonzalez, Archer and Nosbisch ran a 57.80 to place seventh.

Junior varsity

Sky Toyne had the top placement among Lion runners participating in junior varsity events.  She was second in the long jump with a mark of 11’04.0” Bella Parker was third in a 100 meter hurdles in a time of 19.38.

In the 100 meter dash, Halie Westendorf was third in 14.93 and Mikalyla VanderPloeg was eighth in 15.82.  Westendorf also placed eighth in the 200 in 31.22.  Sharrell Lee was fourth in the 200 in 30.22.

The JV Lions competed in two relay events.  The 4x200 with Lee, Westendorf, VanderPloeg and Tali Tesar was third in 2:03.34.  The 800 sprint medley with Olivia Amos, Kaylee Nosbisch, Lee and Riley Cooney finished as runner-up in 2:07.38.
