Clear Lake girls shutout GHV

The Clear Lake girls soccer team had a .500 week.  The Lions topped Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and dropped a match with Aplington-Parkersburg.

CL 5, GHV 0

After a slow start, the Lions stepped up their attack and earned a 5-0 victory at GHV Tuesday, May 10.

“We struggled to get anything going in the first half,” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “I felt GHV was doing a good job of controlling the ball and the match. In second half we were able to find our stride.”

The teams were scoreless at the half.  After the break, Milo Dugan took the lead for the Lions, attacking the goal at every opportunity.  Her effort resulted in the Lions’ first hat trick of the year.   Dugan finished with five shots— one shot on goal and three goals.

Erin O’Tool also had a good night for the Lions.  She took four shots, one shot on goal, and scored twice for her team.

Katelyn Moore and Lizzie Lakose also pressured the Cards.  Moore attempted two shots and Lakose took one.

Rissa Barragy was credited with an assist in the match.

Clear Lake goalkeeper Ellie Biebesheimer had seven saves in the win.

“I think we played one of our best halves of the season in the first half; the second half was a different story,” said GHV Coach Josh Banse.  “O’Tool and Dugan played very well in the second half and we could not stop them.  The lesson to learn from all of this is never stop playing.  We still have four regular season games to fix things before we meet up with Clear Lake in the first round of Regionals.

W-SR 9, CL 0

The Lions faced their toughest competition of the season Thursday, May 12, against Waverley-Shell Rock.  Goalkeeper Ellie Biebesheimer had her hands full and played great with 35 saves, but the Go-Hawks were too much and posted a 9-0 win.

The W-SR defense stifled the Lions.  Clear Lake was unable to make any shots on goal in the match.

“Overall we’ll take this, along with every other experience, as an opportunity to grow,” said Coach Faber.
