Clear Lake hosts Lion Relays on Tuesday

Clear Lake hosted the Lion Relays Tuesday, April 11. Forest City and Algona battled for the team title, with Forest City winning 166.50 to 152 points. Lake Mills was fourth with 119, followed by Osage with 103.50 and Clear Lake with 87. Clarion-Goldfield, Belmond-Klemme and Hampton-Dumont were also in the field.
The Lions were led by Zach Lester, who finished second in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.58, as well as the high jump where he cleared 5’10”. He also anchored the 1600 distance medley relay team which finished as runner-up in 3:52.05. His relay teammates included Speed Toyne, Nick Eggers and Karter Anderson. The shuttle hurdle team of Mitchell Raber, Joey Monson, Lester and Parker Crispin was third in 1:05.15.
Distance runners Grant Dieken and Ike Branstad also had strong outings. Dieken finished second in the 3200 meter run in a time of 11:02.04 and was fourth in the 1600 meters in 5:10.33. Branstad was runner-up in the 1600 in 5:04.91 and fourth in the 800 meters in 2:12.18.
In the field events, Luke Eggers placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 18’9.25”. Jared Penning was seventh in the discus with a throw of 106’2”. Cameron Levenhagen was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 39’5”.
Clear Lake’s sprinters helped the Lions place third in the 4x200 in 1:37.95 and fourth in the 4x100 in 47.60. The 4x200 included Speed Toyne, Luke Eggers, Will Kirschbaum and Nick Eggers. The 4x100 was comprised of Parker Crispin, Toyne, Luke Eggers and Kirschbaum. The sprint medley team of Crispin, Kirschbaum, Nick Eggers and Karter Anderson was third in 1:41.88.
The 4x400 team of Nick Eggers, Karter Anderson, Zane Anderson and Toyne was fourth in 3:48.95. The 4x800 team was seventh in 10:31.08. That relay featured Kanon Goeman, Bryce McClurg, Anthony Aragon and Nick Currier.
Indian Relays
Coach AJ Feuerbach reports strains and injuries have caused him to move some personnel around, but the Lions continue to post good times and improve on them. “We are getting closer to solidifying our relays for the push to the end, so we are happy about that,” he said.
The Lions competed in the Indian Relays at Forest City Thursday. They finished in the middle of the 10-team pack with 75.5 points. Forest City edged Humboldt 155.5 to 153.5 for the team title.
Zach Lester had the lone win for the Lions. He won the high jump by clearing 5’10”. He was also third in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:00.62.
Parker Crispin earned a second place finish in the 110 high hurdles for the Lions. He was clocked in 15.58. He was also a part of the fifth place shuttle hurdle team which ran a 1:05.81.
Other individual placements included Grant Dieken, fifth in the 3200 in 11:07.20. Ike Branstad was fifth in the 1600 in 5:05.93 and seventh in the 800 in 2:14.64.
Luke Eggers was sixth in the long jump, going 19’2.5”. In the shot put, Jared Penning placed fifth with a throw of 110’11”, and Cameron Levenhagen was eighth with a toss of 108’9”.
In relay events, the 4x200 with Speed Toyne, Luke Eggers, Karter Anderson and Nick Eggers was second in 1:37.19, as was the distance medley in 3:54.41. The sprint medley team crossed the finish in third place in a time off 1:42.64. The 4x100 was fifth in 48.20. The 4x400 was sixth in 3:51.54. The 4x800 was seventh in 10:17.0. That relay featured Branstad, Bryce McClurg, Kanon Goeman and Brody Kuhlmeier.
