Colon denied Olympic dream

Joe Colon, from Clear Lake, fell short of his dream to qualify for the US national team at the US Olympic Wrestling Team Trials in Iowa City on Sunday. Colon opened with a win in the 57 kilogram weight class, beating Obenson Blanc 15-10. He then lost to 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott, who is now the head coach at North Carolina, by a 14-4 technical fall. Colon in the back side of the bracket beat Erkin Tadzhimetov 15-5, but the goal of becoming a member of the national team came to an end after losing to Nahshon Garrett, who last month won the 133-pound NCAA crown at Cornell, by a score of 14-1.-Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.
