Congratulations to Clear Lake’s two State wrestlers

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter congratulates Clear Lake High School grapplers Ryan Leisure and Eric Faught on their outstanding performances at the Iowa High School 2016 State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.

Leisure (43-1) joins Joe Colon as the only two-time state champion in school history.  He earned his second State wrestling title in dramatic fashion.  The Lion junior used a spladle off of a re-start in the second overtime period to pin Creston/Orient-Macksburg’s Wyatt Thompson and win the Class 2A 138-pound title.

Faught, a freshman, finished as runner-up at 106-pounds.  He also had an exciting championship match, but suffered his first loss of the season in the 106-pound match to Matthew Randone, of Assumption of Davenport, 5-4.   Both wrestlers are dedicated to leading the Lions to another successful season next winter and will be highly favored to return to the State Championships in 2017.

Last week’s edition of the Mirror-Reporter included misspellings of the wrestlers’ names.  The Reporter apologizes for the error and looks forward to correctly reporting the achievements of these competitors in the future!
