Corinne Mikkelsen
Corinne Mikkelsen, 93, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 21, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Inurnment was at Clear Lake Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions to Salvation Army or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Iowa.
Corinne was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Mason City. She married Leland Mikkelsen on July 18, 1970, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Mason City. After their wedding, they moved to California where they spent most of their married life before returning to Thornton in April 1994.
Corinne graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. She worked for the Cerro Gordo County Assessor from 1948-1970.
Corinne was a member of several Lutheran churches in Iowa and California. She and Leland enjoyed traveling, which included taking their RV to Oregon, Washington state, and Montana. They became lifelong friends with snowbirds from various states and Canada. Corinne also enjoyed caring for her dogs and writing letters to friends and family.
Corinne is survived by a daughter, Renee (Heiner) Buenting, of Germany; two step-daughters, Judi A. Kennedy, of Idaho, and June Mikkelsen, of California; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty (Darrell) Kolb, of Thornton, and Gerda Hartwell, of Clear Lake; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
