County Road B-35 closed between Clear Lake and Mason City
County road B-35 between Clear Lake and Mason City is now closed to through traffic.
The well-traveled road between the two communities was officially closed Monday, June 13, to ready it for a $3.1 million construction project. Completion is expected in late September.
The project involves a two-and-one-half mile stretch along “Old Highway 106” between Lark and Jonquil Avenues. Detours can be expected and will be posted.
According to Cerro Gordo County Engineer Mary Kelly, the project includes removal of the existing pavement, grading and widening for new pavement, construction of turn lanes and relocation of the trail near the intersections to accommodate the new turn lanes. The roadway will be closed for the duration of the project, keeping access for local residents only. The bicycle trail will also be closed intermittently to allow for the relocation.
Kelly said efforts are being made to reduce the number of days the bike trail will be closed during the construction project. In early July, the existing trail will be removed. Earth work for the trail will be done, followed by placement of a granular base and pavement of the new trail.
Those with questions about the project may contact the County Engineer’s Office at 641-424-9037, or go to the office’s Facebook page at facebook.com/cerro.gordo.county.engineer.
Heartland Asphalt, of Mason City, is the contractor for the work.
