Dennis D. Simmer

Dennis Dale Simmer, 63, of Garner, Iowa, and formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Dennis was born July 23, 1952 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Donald and Margaret (Rosander) Simmer Sr.  His family moved to Clear Lake in 1958.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1970.

He worked for Jensen Grocery in the meat deptartment and later worked for Andrews Prestress Concrete, Clear Lake.

He married Judy Cummings and to this union had two children, Chad and Shelley.

He enjoyed playing cribbage, pool and with his dogs.

He is survived by his two children, Chad (Terra Gaffney-Simmer) Simmer, Clear Lake, and Shelley (Mark) Good, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Brianna Simmer, Brooke Gaffney-Simmer, future grandson, Brecken Simmer, Samantha Schroeder and Oliver Monson; great-grandchildren, Drayton Ward, Daxton Ward, Jaxon Rozevink and Amelia Mary; eight siblings, Tim Simmer, Clear Lake, Karen (Robert Christiansen) Olinger, Clear Lake, Dixie (Larry) Haugen, Clear Lake, Sandy Katz, Mason City, Robert (Colleen) Simmer, Clear Lake, Francis (Shelley Paulsen) Simmer, Ventura, Dale Simmer, Mason City, and Tom Simmer, Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Donald Simmer Jr., Larry Simmer, Fredrick Simmer, Paul Simmer and Richard Simmer; two brothers-in-law, Merle Olinger and Dale Katz; sister-in-law, Michele Simmer; and a niece, Grace Simmer.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
