DeVries and Enke to transfer to Concordia- St. Paul

Former Clear Lake High School student-athletes Jaylen DeVries and Drew Enke have announced they will be transferring to Concordia-St. Paul to continue their collegiate football careers.

DeVries announced in February he intended to leave the football program at Southern Illinois, noting he wanted to contribute to a program as a quarterback. The 2020 CLHS graduate did not see action during the 2020 COVID season and was redshirted as a tight end during the Saluki’s 2021 season.

DeVries is a Clear Lake High School record holder in passing and touchdowns. He was an All-State selection as a junior.

Enke is transferring to Concordia St. Paul from the University of Northern Iowa.  Enke was red-shirted for UNI’s 2019 season as a wide receiver and did not see action in the 2021 spring season.  He did not compete in the fall of 2021.  He also received All-State honors as a high school player and was a four-sport athlete, graduating in 2019.

Concordia St. Paul Head Coach Shannon Currier said he is thrilled to add DeVries and Enke to his program.

“Both are phenomenal players and will contribute to the team in many ways.  They are high quality young men who will make our team culture even better.”

Currier said he expects DeVries to be in competition for the quarterback position in the fall.  The program graduated one QB and two return.  However, Currier said last season the team relied on its fourth string quarterback by mid-season.

Enke is expected to contribute immediately as an outside receiver.

“He has an explosive big catch radius,” said Currier about the 6’3” Enke.   “He is big, but still fast.”

DeVries and Enke join two other CLHS alums at Concordia St. Paul: Carson Krefft, a 6’3” 275-pound offensive lineman, and Ty Fisher, a 5’11” freshman linebacker.

Concordia-St. Paul is the only private, Division II institution in the state on Minnesota and the only Division II member in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  Currier is in his 11th overall season as CSP head football coach.  He is the program’s all-time win leader.
