Dorothy “Dot” King

Dorothy “Dot” King, 69, of Flore, Northamptonshire, England, died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Danetre Hospital, Daventry, Northamptonshire, after a long illness bravely borne.

The funeral service will take place at All Saints Church, Flore, Northamptonshire, at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, with the Rev. Stephen Burrow officiating. Burial will take place in the churchyard.

Dot was born in Liverpool, England on Oct. 2, 1946, the daughter of Joseph and Annie Postlethwaite.  In 1964 she met husband-to-be Paul and they married in 1968 in Liverpool.  They made their home in Paul’s home county of Northamptonshire where they remained together for 48 years.

In 1990 Dot and Paul came to Clear Lake for the first time and visited another 26 times until their last visit to the Winter Dance Party in 2015.  They became friends with hundreds of people at the Surf Ballroom and throughout North Iowa, and always regarded Clear Lake as their ‘second home’.  They are particularly well-known for their involvement with the Winter Dance Party Musical Scholarships program.  Dot’s special friends in Clear Lake are John and Shirley Clemons and Connie Hartwig.

Dot is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter, Wendy (Mark); three grandchildren, Holly, Teddy and George, all from Upper Boddington, Northamptonshire; brother, John; and sister, Joyce; one nephew; and eight cousins.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annie; her niece, Carol; and three cousins.

Dot was an active member of her local church, a keen flower arranger and a lover of wildlife.  With Paul she was fortunate to travel to many countries, but their favorite place to visit was Clear Lake.  She loved Rock ‘n’ Roll music which gave her the opportunity to make so many like-minded friends, and she will be sadly missed by many people both in England and in the USA.

Dot’s family have appreciated all the kind thoughts and prayers from their family and friends over the past five difficult years.
