Fire destroys house

An unoccupied house on South Shore Drive was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 6201 South Shore Drive for a reported structure fire, at approximately 3:54 a.m. Sunday.

According to CLFD Public Information Officer Josh Pokorney, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was the first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire at a single story unoccupied house. Once on scene, CLFD made the determination that the house was a total loss and made an exterior attack only.

The next couple of hours were spent extinguishing the fire and performing overhaul, making sure all of the hot spots were out, said Pokorney.

No one was injured.

Cerro Gordo property records list the property as being owned by Ronald and Alta Gilbert, of Olin, Iowa.

The fire remains under investigation by the Clear Lake Fire Department.   Estimated damage is over $100,000.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with three Engine Companies, one Rescue Company, one Squad Company, a Command Vehicle and 18 firefighters.   The Ventura Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aide for the need of extra man power and water; they responded with two Engine Companies and seven firefighters.

Clear Lake Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Ventura Fire Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and Alliant Energy.
