Geraldine Trebil

Geraldine “Gerry” L. Trebil, 94, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th Street NW, Mason City, Iowa, with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain – Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Geraldine was born April 15, 1923, in Mason City, the daughter of Arthur F. and Alta M. (Holmes) Donaghy.  She graduated from Mason City High School in 1941. On June 28, 1947, she married Donald L. Trebil, in Mason City.  Over the years, she worked for Decker’s, Kresge’s, West Side Charlie Brown and was the manager of the North Side Congregate until her retirement in 2000.  She also babysat lots of children and is still known as “Grandma Gerry”.  Gerry enjoyed her many trips to Alabama visiting her daughter and son-in-law (whom she called her partner in crime as he would take her on long car rides and gospel sings).  She also enjoyed playing cards – especially 500 and Skip Bo.  She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she belonged to church circle, the Mason City Senior Center (Board of Directors), Eagles, VFW Auxiliary #733 and the Mercy Volunteer Organization.

Gerry is survived by her children, Larry Donaghy and wife, Mary, of Clear Lake, Linda Born and husband, Abe, of Clear Lake, Robert Trebil and wife, Kristina, of Lacey, Wash., Deborah Trebil, of Plymouth, Iowa, Sharon Leppert and husband, James, of Mason City, Curtis Trebil and wife, Christine, of Mason City and Bruce Trebil and wife, Donna, of Clear Lake; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; daughters, Jeanne Meyers and Louella Bice; son-in-law, William Bice; son, LeRoy Trebil; granddaughter, Ronda Mennenga; and brother, Harold Donaghy and wife, Rose.

Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
