GHV boys down Denver in soccer action, 3-1
A windy night didn’t slow down the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team, as they handed Denver a 3-1 loss on Thursday, April 6.
“Besides the wind, it was a great night for soccer. The sun was shining and the temperature was decent,” said Coach Eric Williams.
The Cardinals scored early to take a 1-0 lead. Good defense aided GHV, as Denver struggled to find the goal. According to the coach, the team played very physically and put a lot of pressure on the Denver team.
“We had lots of opportunities with 10 shots on goal, eight corners and a couple of free kicks,” said Williams.
Connor Burke led the Cardinals with two goals. Jared Graham had the other goal and he had one assist. Nick Joynt had two assists.
Chase Theobald was the goal keeper and he had five saves and had one goal scored against him.
“We are playing well together and after two matches we are really seeing how much talent we really have. There are still things that we are working on, but it’s so much fun to be coaching a group of young men that understand the game and can execute the match plans. We should be super competitive this season,” said Williams.
