It was a good start for the season for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team, as they topped Clarion-Goldfield on a very cool night.  The Cardinals topped the Cowboys by 14 strokes, 173-187, on Monday, April 4.

Grady Umbarger earned medalist honors, carding a 38.

“Grady has the ability to be one of the best young golfers in the area,” said Coach Ken Krause.  “I’m sure he is not completely satisfied with his score, however.”

Rounding out GHV’s score was Alek Goll with a 43, Matthew Heinemann shot a 45 and Jordan Babcock ended with a 47.  Also golfing was Brandon Bell, 47, and Todd Finley ended with a 50.

“Alek played a consistent round of golf,” said Kraus.  “Matthew’s round was acceptable, but he has the ability to go much lower.  Jordan played well for six holes, but we have to count all nine.  Todd and Brandon both did well in their first varsity meets.

Blake Johnson led Clarion-Goldfield in scoring with a 44.
