GHV boys soccer team falls to MC

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team faced a competitive Mason City team on a windy Monday night, April 30.

“Much like the last four matches, we are struggling to finish,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “We are getting opportunities, but are just missing.”

Coach Williams was proud of the fact that his defense is playing solid.  He said Mason City could have scored five or six more goals, but the defense was too strong.  The Mohawks beat the Cardinals, 2-0.

The starters for the game were Landon Dalbeck, Dane Whipple, Ethan Kale, Anthony Sherwood, Connor Burke, Jonah Albertson, Ryan Meyers, Seth Miller, and Austin Bahensky.  Will Eastman, Brady Hess, Ryan Hackenmiller and Jared Shaw also saw quite a bit of action.

Burke led the team with two shots and three shots on goal.  Meyers, Knutson and Albertson all had one shot apiece.

Albertson had three corner kicks.

In the goalie position, Dalbeck had 11 saves.

“Even though Landon let up two goals, he is playing really well for being a first year soccer athletes,” said Williams.

The Cardinals are still battling with injuries, but the underclassmen are stepping up to fill some positions.
