GHV cross country team competes in Eagle Grove meet

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura cross country team squeezed a meet in between rain showers last week.  The team traveled to Eagle Grove on Thursday, Oct. 4.

“We ran real well on a very hard course and had several personal records, which is great to see at this time of the year,” said Coach Jeff Short.

Boys Race

The Cardinal boys placed sixth in the nine-team field with 144 points.  Humboldt won the meet with 39 points, followed by Charles City with 61 and Clear Lake with 77.  GHV did not run their top runners in the meet.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Jake Hejlik, who ran a personal best time of 18:12.43.  Hejlik placed 11th.  Blake Lynch wasn’t far behind with a 13th place finish in 18:16.55.  Next to cross the line for GHV was Kristopher Hammitt, who also ran a personal best time.  He finished in 36th place with a time of 19:35.17.  Rounding out the score was Nathan Larson, who finished 46th with a time of 19:48.08, and Dalton Hawe, who was 63rd with a time of 20:13.90.

Also competing was Aiden Richardson, 79th, 20:51.14; Luke Brown, 86th, 21:05.83; Sam Childress, 102nd, 21:41.73; Issac Bell, 114th, 22:02.85; Jordan Upmeyer, 133rd, 22:53.11; Jacob Hasler, 136th, 22:58.41; Austin Mohlis, 152nd, 24:00.31; Brandon Galkin, 159th, 25:05.56; Sam Wood, 160th, 25:23.61; Luke Hansen, 162nd, Luke Hansen, 25:41.39; and Ashton Strom, 163rd, 25:41.63.

Besides Hejlik and Hammit, other runners recording personal best times were Bell, Hasler, Galkin and Strom.

Girls Race

Abby Christians had a strong night for the GHV girls team, finishing in the top 10 with a time of 20:50.24, good for fifth place.

The team finished in seventh place in the nine-team field with 184 points.  Charles City won the meet with 37 points, followed by Spencer with 63 and Gilbert was third with 79 points.

Audrey Carrison ran a personal best time of 24:36.14 and finished in 54th place.  Close behind her was Alison Johnson, 58th place, 24:48.28.  Rounding out the varsity score was Lorna Whelan, 68th place, 25:19.26 and Edith Carew, 72nd, 25:37.74.

Also competing at the Eagle Grove meet was Mara Anderson, 75th, 25:43.87; Nicole Upmeyer, 76th, 25:48.33; Sadie Oulman, 81st, 26:09.19; Elexis Carrison, 82nd, 26:19.33; Kylie Anderson, 83rd, 26:19.33; and Shelby Howke,128th, 29:12.87.

Elexis Carrison’s time of 26:19.33 was also a personal best time.
