GHV girls firing on all cylinders
Lake Mills Meet
Despite playing on an unfamiliar course, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team recorded the lowest score on Monday, April 17, when they competed in a triangular meet at Lake Mills. GHV captured the win with a 192. Forest City was runner-up with a 229 and Lake Mills finished with a 238.
Bailee Frayne was named the medalist with a 41. Carlee Frayne was the runner-up with a 43. Rounding out the score was Rachel Enright with a 52, Kayla Leerar shot a 56 and Paige Penning recorded a 60.
“Both Bailee and Carlee started a little shaky, but recovered quickly to play their typical game,” said Coach Todd Greiman. “Rachel and Paige were both playing their best rounds of the season when one hole jumped up and bit them. These are learning situations that I know will make them both better.”
Garner Triangular
The Frayne sisters led the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team to another triangular victory on Tuesday, April 18, and in the process captured the top two scores. The win was even more fun, because it was a Cardinal home meet.
Bailee Frayne was named medalist with a 40, while her younger sister, Carlee, claimed runner-up honors with a 42. Other GHV scores included Rachel Enright with a 51, Paige Penning ended with a 54 and Kayla Leerar carded a 59.
The Cardinals won the meet with a 187 team score. Lake Mills finished with a 253 and West Fork ended with 259.
“It was great to see us finally break 190 as a team,” said Coach Todd Greiman. “The girls are all playing very steady right now and each of them are still capable of dropping a few more strokes. Maybe the most important thing about their play right now is that they are enjoying the game and having fun.”
Spring Valley Meet
The GHV girls may have been short handed on Friday, April 21 at Spring Valley, but the score didn’t reflect it. The Cardinals beat Bishop Garrigan, 202-225, and also captured medalist and runner-up honors.
“We had two girls battling illness, but the four that played did a good job,” said Coach Todd Greiman.
The coach was also proud of the girls for doing so well on the tricky greens at Spring Valley, which he said elevated all of their scores.
“Carlee Frayne has never even seen this course, so that took a real toll on her score,” said Greiman. “Rachel Enright has been showing nice improvement over the last couple of meets.”
Bailee Frayne earned medalist honors with her score of 43. Enright was the runner-up with a 49. Carlee Frayne finished with a 51 and Paige Penning rounded out the score with a 59.
