GHV girls golf team wins TIC meet

For the fifth year in a row, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team has won the Top of Iowa Conference meet.  The meet was held on Monday, May 8, in Britt.

The Cardinals outdistanced their nearest competition by 30 strokes with a 382.  Bishop Garrigan was runner-up with a 412.  Forest City was third with 434.  Nine teams competed in the TIC Meet.

“After having seen every other team in the field at least once already this season, we knew going in that winning the trophy was very likely,” said Coach Todd Greiman.

Having the top two golfers didn’t hurt anything either.  The dynamic sister duo of Bailee and Carlee Frayne took top honors.  Bailee was medalist with a 38-40-78.  Carlee shot a 41-44-85.

Rachel Enright placed ninth at the meet with a 51-51-102.  Rounding out the score was Kayla Leerar, 64-53-117.  Cassie Eichmann carded a 61-62-123.

“To help motivate themselves, the girls set a goal to outscore the top four players from the other eight teams in the conference and they were able to accomplish that, said Greiman.  “Our scores have been pretty solid, but we are well aware that we’ll need to step up our games in Regionals since the competition will be considerably tougher.”
