GHV girls put forth best effort

Despite their best efforts, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls track team didn’t have any events advance to the State Track Meet from the Class 2A District Qualifying Meet held in Garner on Thursday, May 12.

“I am extremely proud of my team,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “They worked hard all year, repeatedly broke their personal records and developed an amazing team atmosphere.  We’re a young team that will go for it again next year.”

The Cardinals placed seventh in the 12-team field with 53 points.  Pocahontas Area won the District with 140 points.

Hannah Lau and Emma Whelan were just short of qualifying for the State Meet. The pair tied for third place in the high jump with leaps of 4’8”.

Jayden Hughes placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.68.  The distance medley team of Sadie Oulman, Leah Meinders, Jacki Van Oort and Maddie Williams, was also fourth with a time of 4:36.74.  The shuttle hurdle team of Miranda Jackson, Williams, Mara Anderson and Jillian Heitland placed fourth with a time of 1:11.57.

Amanda Bierle was fifth in the 200 meter dash, completing the race in 29.52.  Anderson was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 74.09.  The sprint medley team was also fifth with a time of 1:59.59.  Members of the sprint medley were Hughes, Meinders, Van Oort and Oulman.

The 4x400 relay team of Williams, Van Oort, Heitland and Oulman was sixth with a time of 4:24.30.

Rebekah Larson was seventh in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:46.68.  The 4x800 meter relay team was also seventh with a time of 11:55.11.  Members of the 4x800 were Maddie Schoneman, Hannah Wellik, Droste Hennings and Hannah Whelan.
