GHV girls run at West Hancock and TIC meet
West Hancock CoEd Relay
The Cardinals finished fourth at the six-team West Hancock CoEd Relay held on Tuesday, May 2. Central Springs won the meet with 153 points. Northwood-Kensett was the runner-up with 115. GHV finished with 88 points.
Jayden Hughes had a good day for the Cards, finishing first in the 100 meter dash in 13.29 and second in the 200, 26.97.
A highlight of the meet was the shuttle hurdle team winning the event with a time of 1:12.89. Members of the relay were Madeline Hinz, Mara Anderson, Rachel Hejlik and Jillian Heitland.
Rebekah Larson also had success with two second place finishes, one in the 1500 meter run and the other in the 3000 meter run. She ran the 1500 in 5:55.49 and the 3000 in 13:10.77.
Rachel Hejlik was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 32’7.50”.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Allison Johnson, Hinz, Amanda Bierle and Hughes was second with a time of 1:55.28.
“We’re excited to head into Districts next week and we’ll see what happens,” said Coach Dyan Childress.

TIC Meet
The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls track team is peaking exactly when they should. They captured a fourth place finish at the Top of Iowa Conference meet on Thursday, May 4. Bishop Garrigan won the meet with 119.50 points, followed by West Hancock with 109. GHV finished with 101 points.
Emma Whelan won the high jump, clearing 4’10”.
Jayden Hughes captured two second place finishes in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. She ran the 100 in 13.11 and the 200 in 27.02.
Jilliann Heitland placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.79 and third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.45.
The shuttle hurdle team of Madeline Hinz, Mara Anderson, Rachel Hejlik and Heitland placed third in 1:12.79.
“The girls have stayed positive through the bad weather stretch and have kept their eyes on their goals,” said Coach Dyan Childress. “It makes me proud of these girls.”
