GHV lands nine on TIC West All-Conference teams
The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team was well represented on the 2016 Top of Iowa West All-Conference list. Eight players earned honors, while first-year coach Shawn Schlechter was named Coach of the Year.
The Cardinals finished the outstanding season with a 13-3 record and were named conference champions.
GHV had four players earn First Team recognition. Payton James, a senior, was recognized as a pitcher. He recorded 10 starts and had a record of 5-0 and had 40 strike-outs on the season. At the plate, James hit .327 with 16 RBIs. Cade Baker, also a senior was selected as a catcher. Baker finished the season hitting .356 with 15 RBIs. Senior Harley Forry was named to the First Team as a outfielder. Forry was a league leader hitting .400 on the year. Sophomore Cade Bamrick earned honors as an infielder. Bamrick had a batting average of .364 and he recorded 14 RBIs for the year.
Four sophomores earned Second Team honors for the Cardinals. Ryan Meyers was named as a pitcher. He finished the season with 50 strike-outs and a record of 4-1 on the mound. He also had a batting average of .444. Nick Joynt and Colton Schroeder both earned Second Team honors as infielders. Joynt batted .347 with 16 RBIs. Schroeder had 13 RBIs while hitting .375. He also recorded five doubles. Anthony Sherwood was named to the list for his outfield skills. He hit .381 with three doubles and 10 RBIs.
Honorable mention recognition went to senior Alek Goll. He batted .275 and had 10 RBIs and two doubles.
