GHV players named to Top of Iowa All-Conference lists

After a successful season with a record of 21-5 and a trip to the Substate finals, it is no wonder the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys are well represented on the All-Conference teams for the the Top of Iowa Conference.

Senior Sam Cataldo was a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection.  Also making the First Team was junior Jonathan O’Connor.  Freshman James Betz was named to the Second Team and Payton James, a senior, earned Honorable Mention recognition.

“All of these players worked hard and made contributions on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Joe Albertson.  “Each of them have a set of unique skills that helped our team be successful.”

Cataldo was the team’s leader.  He averaged 17.2 points per game and was fourth in the conference for scoring.  He also led the team in rebounds with 8.6 per game and he was third in the conference in rebounds.  He also recorded 57 blocks for the year.

O’Connor was the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 11 points per game.  He was also a strong presence from behind the three-point line, recording 24 three-point shots.  He also led the team in steals with 41 and he was a good team player recording 68 assists.

Betz, the team’s big guy at 6’7”, scored 9.2 points per game and was efficient from the free throw line with 83.3 percent accuracy.  He was the team’s second leading rebounder, averaging 6.1 per game.  He also recorded 26 steals and he had 29 blocked shots for the season.

James was the team’s three-point shooter.  He led the team in trey’s with 39.  He averaged 6.6 points per game.

The TIC Player of the Year was Granger Kingland, of Lake Mills.  Brian Peterson, of West Hancock, was named the TIC Coach of the Year.
