GHV school leader finalist for top honor
Tyler Williams, superintendent of the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Community School District, was a finalist for the 2015-16 Iowa Superintendent of the Year award sponsored by the School Administrators of Iowa.
“SAI is pleased to recognize leaders who are dedicated to promoting student achievement and committed to education,” said Roark Horn, the association’s executive director.
The GHV School District began the current school year as one district after a successful reorganization vote, where 93 percent of voters approved the Garner-Hayfield and Ventura school districts becoming a single district.
Williams received his undergraduate teaching degree at Central College, a master’s degree in administration at Drake University, where he also received his specialist’s degree in education, leading to a four-year stint in Mount Ayr where he received his first superintendent’s position. Williams is in his 13th year representing Garner-Hayfield, Ventura and now GHV.
Nominated for the award by his peers, Williams will be recognized at SAI’s awards reception Aug. 3, 2016, along with Council Bluffs Superintendent Martha Bruckner who was recently selected as the recipient.
