Girls golf team records best score of the year

The Clear Lake girls had final tune-up round before Regionals, competing Monday, May 16, at the Ballard Country Club.   The six-team tournament included ADM, Ballard, Clear Lake, Bondurant, Indianola and North Polk. Clear Lake came out victorious with its best team score of the year, 327. Indianola came in second place with a 386.

The Lions had five of the top eight individuals, who all medaled.

Meghan DeLong got first place with a 75. In second place was Rebecca DeLong with 78.

“Both sisters played very consistently all day,” said Coach Colby Andrews. “This was the first tournament this season where they both were in the 70s.”

In third place with her lowest round of 84 was Jaden Ainley.

“Jaden had an incredible back nine, shooting a 38 and breaking 40 for the first time,” said Jennings.

In fifth place was Macey Holck with a 90.

“She had a bit of a rocky start, but really settled in and ground out a good round,” added the coach.

Meagan Paine shot 95 and got 8th place. Lily James shot 98, which was her first time ever breaking 100.

“All six girls came in under 100, which is a first this year,” said Jennings. “It was a great day for the team and each individual. The Ballard Invitational was a great way to help prepare us for Regionals. None of the girls had ever seen or played the course before. We were ecstatic to break 330 for the first time.”
