Girls soccer team ends season against GHV
The Clear Lake girls closed their season against the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals May 26.
“We came up short on a game we controlled,” said Coach Greg Jennings. “It was a tough loss. For my seniors it was the last time they laced up their cleats. We had lots of opportunities but failed to capitalize on them.”
The Lions played in front of the Cardinal goal most of the game, but just couldn’t find the net.
Meanwhile, the Cards shot 100 percent the first half, taking them into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The second half was just like the first, with lots of offense for the Lions, but they remained scoreless.
The game ended with a 1-0 score.
“I’m proud of my girls. We have a really tight, creative group and I will miss the ones that will be moving on to college,” added Jennings.
The Lions say goodbye to 12 seniors who helped the team to a 9-8 record in 2021: Chelsey Holck, Ali Maulsby, Delaney Markwardt, Darby Dodd, Ali Lincicum, Sophie Ollenburg, Maggi Wolfe, Val Campos, Jillian Enke, Ava Ollenburg, Riley Schuchard and Addison Wagler.
