The Clear Lake girls soccer team wrapped up the regular season Friday with a win over Humboldt, giving them a 7-5 record overall. The Lions will begin post-season play Wednesday, May 18. They will host Grundy Center-Gladbrook Reinbeck (7-8) in a 6 p.m. match at Lions Field.

When Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura meet on the soccer field it is always a tight match. That was the case Monday, May 9, when the Lions traveled to Garner. The match went to a shoot out periods before the Cardinals (9-2) won, 1-0.
“Neither team could get much going,” said Clear Lake Coach Greg Jennings. “There was lots of back and forth and after 80 minutes, the game remained tied 0-0. We played two overtime periods and it was still 0-0.”
A shootout followed the overtimes and finally determined a winner.
Clear Lake goalkeeper Rowan O’Keeffe had 11 saves.

The Lions tracked to Belmond with a very offensive attack Thursday night.
“Kaylee McCarl and Autumn VanHorn did a great job controlling the midfield, allowing our forwards some great opportunities,” said Coach Jennings.
Addison Jones had a fantastic night with four goals. Brooklyn Eden and Jordan Mayland each added one, as well. The Lions finished with a 6-0 victory.
CL 6, Humboldt
The Lions ended their regular season on Friday hosting the Humboldt Wildcats.
“The first time we played them we fell to them, 2-1. It was a game that’s been on my mind all season. We didn’t play well the first time we met,” said Coach Jennings. “This go around was much better.”
The Lion defense, led by Emily Theiss and Kristina Miller, did a great job keeping the ball out of their goalkeeper Rowan O’Keefe’s hands. The Clear Lake offense did the rest.
Brooklyn Eden ended the night with three goals, Addison Jones had a pair and Autumn VanHorn and Jordan Mayland each landed one.
