Girls track team accomplishes feat not done in 20 years

The Clear Lake girls track team accomplished a feat that hasn’t been done in 20 years.  The team claimed championship honors at the Webster City Invitational.  The team followed that with a third place finish at the Charles City meet.

The Clear Lake girls captured the team title at Webster City on Thursday, April 21, with 139 points.  Webster City claimed runner-up honors with 94.5 points in the seven-team field.

“The last time that a Clear Lake girls team won a meet was in 2002,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann.  “They put a lot of energy in winning this meet and we posted some exciting times.”

If winning the team title wasn’t enough, the girls also qualified more events for the Drake Relays to be held Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30, in Des Moines.  Reese Brownlee, who qualified for the Drake Relays last week in the long jump, earned another spot in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.60 and in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.80. She is also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team that qualified in 52.60.  Other members of the 4x100 relay are Maddie Leisure, Lydia Brattrud and Josie Lester.  Addison Doughan qualified in the 3000 meter run with at time of 10:37.80.  She will run on Thursday at 6:10 p.m.  Brownlee will compete in the 100 meter at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, in the long jump at 9:30 a.m. and in the 400 meter at 5:15 p.m.  The 4x100 will take the track on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Doughan and Anna Feuerbach took first and second in the 800 meter run with times of 2:31:00 and 2:33.80 respectively.

Brattrud had a solid 200 meter dash race, finishing in second place with a time of 27.70.

A number of relay teams brought home championship honors.  The 4x800 relay team of Feuerbach, Alexis Hauge, Jadyn Heesch and Rebekah Steinbron placed first with a time of 11:55.80.  The Sprint Medley team of Makella Jacobs, Lester, Leisure and Brattrud won in 2:01.30.

Charles City Relays

The Clear Lake girls earned third place in the Charles City Comet Relays meet on Friday, April 22, with 75 points.  Osage won the meet with 107 points and Charles City was second with 104 points.

“I was very proud of the girls’ performances in this meet,” said Coach Puttmann.

Brownlee dominated in the long jump with a leap of 17’6.5” to win the event.  She also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.63.

The Distance Medley team of Leisure, Brattrud, Brownlee and Doughan brought home top honors with a time of 4:25.26.  The 4x400 relay team also had a stellar night, winning the race in 4:18.17.  Members of the 4x400 team are Brattrud, Steinbron, Doughan and Brownlee.

The 4x800 team of Feurbach, Hauge, Doughan and Steinbron placed second with a time of 11:03.19
