Hazel E. Leaman
Hazel E. Leaman, 90, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Janet Dorenkamp, Chaplain – Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Interment was in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Hazel was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Mason City, the daughter of Uel and Dorothy (Sells) Howe. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. On Aug. 21, 1945, Hazel was united in marriage to Earl S. Leaman in Mason City. Over the years, she was a homemaker and also worked for Libby Owen Ford for 18 years before retiring in 1988. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing the organ, shopping and crafting tables from ceramic tile. Hazel found joy and happiness in helping others. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in Church Circle.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Gloria Hegland, of Mason City, and her special friend, Howard Marshall, of Nora Springs, Iowa, and Carol Washburn and husband, Lowell, of Clear Lake; one grandson, Matt Washburn and his wife, Renee, of Ventura; two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Riley Washburn; one sister, Mary Sable, of Mason City; and brother-in-law, Dale Raymond of Oshkosh, Wis. She is also survived by her special friend, Jay Erickson, of Good Shepherd Health Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; grandson, Travis Washburn; son-in-law, Max Hegland; one brother, Melvin Howe; two sisters, Mildred Prohaska and Alberta Rheingans; and sister-in-law, Maurine Raymond.
Arrangements were with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Mason City.
