Ice out!

Wednesday, April 10, was declared as the official “ice-out” date by Clear Lake Water DepartmentSuperintendent Adam Theiss.  The lake is officially declared ice-out when a boat can run along the entire shoreline of the lake without encountering any ice.  Although it seems like winter hung on for an extended period, the ice-out date is actually average.   Based on records kept since 1936, the earliest that the ice was out was March 5, 1931.  The latest was April 28, 1951.  The lake was iced-in for the winter season on Nov. 13, 2018.  At that time the lake level was 3.48 inches above the weir.  On Tuesday, April 16, the water department measured the lake level at 6.6 inches above the weir.
