Ina Darlene Mayland

Ina Darlene Mayland, 94, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Kanawha Community Home where she had resided for the past 10 months.Ina was born to Amos and Violetta (Henschen) Hughes on May 1st, 1930 on a farm near Kanawha, Iowa. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1947. She attended Britt Community College where she received a teaching certificate and taught at a country school. In 1948 she married Ben Mayland in Albert Lea, Minn., and they made their home in Britt. They had three children; Roger, Ricky, and Darlene. The family moved to Clear Lake in 1958 and became longtime members of the Zion Lutheran Church. Ina was active in church and Circle. Ina worked for over 20 years in the Clear Lake School District office as support staff. Ben and Ina were avid Lion supporters and enjoyed attending various school sports events as well as following Iowa Hawkeye sports and the Minnesota Twins. Upon retirement Ina tended her garden, played golf and bowled, traveled and played cards with the in-laws, kept track of the grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, and made certain there was plenty of homemade food and treats available in her home. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, cinnamon bread and cookies. Her husband Ben died in 1983 and she lived independently in her own home until she turned 94.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Debbie) of Brainerd, MN, Rick (Priscilla) of Clear Lake, Darlene Sheldon (Jerry Bellinghausen) of Forest City, eight grandchildren: Anders, Beck, Katie, Elliot, Troy, Danielle, Randie, and Amanda, six great-grandchildren; Harvey, Harper, Julianna, Hannah, Maesy, and Zeta, one great-great-grandchild; Weston, and brother Howard (Betty) Hughes of Humboldt, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Janice Johnson.
She was the last surviving member of aunts and uncles of the Fred Mayland extended family.
