Ina Mae Andrews

    Ina Mae (Barr) Andrews, widow of the late Gordon Andrews, passed away Nov. 16, 2011, at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa, with her family at her side. She had been a resident there for more than three years.
     Funeral services were held at the Red Presbyterian Church on Friday, Nov. 19.  The Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiated.  Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Red Oak, Iowa.

    Ina Mae Barr, the daughter  of John and Millie (Kenworthy) Barr was born at home on the farm in Pilot Grove Township, near Grant, Iowa, on Aug. 14, 1914.  She attended and graduated from Elliott High School and furthered her education at Normal Teacher’s School at Creston, Iowa.  Following Normal school she was a teacher at two country schools near Grant for six years. Her means of transportation to school was often on horse back.
    Ina married Gordon Lyle Andrews on May 25, 1936 and their union lasted nearly 64 years.  They farmed northeast of Red Oak until retirement in 1983.  A daughter, Carolyn Mae, was born Nov. 10, 1938.  A son, Ronald Dean, was born June 16, 1943, and a son, Allen Delaine, was born Jan. 18, 1946.
    Ina enjoyed traveling, quilting, sewing and baking for her family, kids, and grandkids.  She also assisted Gordon with all of the farming and livestock chores.  Ina always cherished a good game of cards with the kids, grandkids, and Stanton Care Center residents.  Her pumpkin pie was the best bar none.
    Ina and Gordon loved to square dance and were members of Buckle and Bows Square Dance Club for many years.  She was named Montgomery County Farm Bureau Home Maker of the Year.  She was also recognized by Governor Branstad during the 1980’s and received an Iowa Volunteer Award.  She was a long time member of the “Happy Warblers” singing  group through the summer of 2011. The group sang at local nursling home, hospitals, etc.  She enjoyed belonging to the “Red Oak Old Neighbors Club.”  She was a lifetime member of the Pleasant Lawn and Red Oak Presbyterian Churches where she was always very active.  She was honoree  at the Barr Family Reunion this past summer.  Each year she was an adopted grandma by various fourth grade students at the Stanton Elementary School.
    Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gordon in 2000; brothers, Earl  (Carrie), Lloyd (Edith), Glenn (Loretta), Russell (Dorothy); and sisters, Grace (Vernon) and Leila (Maurice).  Ina was the sole living survivor of the John and Millie Barr family.
   Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Caroly (Newt) McCunn, Onawa, Iowa; and sons, Ronald (Martha “Wink”) Andrews, Clear Lake, and Allen (Mary) Andrews, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandkids and 14 great-grandkds; and several nieces and nephews. 
    Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Andrews Funeral Homes, Belmond, Iowa, assisted locally by the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Home of Red Oak.
