Incumbents Boehnke, Callanan returned to Council;

Ebeling defeats Oehlert in Ward 1

Jim Boehnke and Mike Callanan were returned to the Clear Lake City Council by voters in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election.  They will be joined by Mark Ebeling, who was a 178-119 winner in the race for Ward One representative.

Dana Brant, the previous representative for Ward One, was forced to seek re-election in Ward Three due to redistricting created by the most recent census.  The new boundaries for Ward One placed the one-term incumbent in a race with another one-term representative, Jim Boehnke.  Boehnke was the winner in a tight race, 161-145.

Callanan was running unopposed for his at-large seat.  He collected 643 votes across the community.  There were 42 write-ins for the position.

Two voting centers were open in Clear Lake Tuesday.  According to the Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office, 770 persons cast ballots in the election.  The vast majority, 524, voted at Clear Lake City Hall, while 188 ballots were handed in at the Church of Christ location.

Boehnke gained a 35 vote advantage at the Church of Christ voting center.  He earned 109 votes compared to Brant’s 74 at that site.  At City Hall, Brant topped Boehnke 61-47.

Ebeling and Oehlert were both seeking elected office for the first time.

In Ventura, interim Mayor Lynn Benson and three incumbent Council representatives were running unopposed.  Benson received 46 votes.  Councilman Darwin Avery earned 46 votes, John Quintus had 47 and Michael Thackery earned 41 votes.  There were eight write-ins.

Cerro Gordo County votes were canvassed Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Courthouse.
