Jerry E. Kaster

Jerry E. Kaster, 83, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Mark Doebel officiating.  Burial was in Ventura Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW.

Jerry was born on May 25, 1933, the son of Frank and Iris (Hulbert) Kaster, in Clear Lake.  He was united in marriage to Dorothy Harrington.  She later preceded him in death.

Jerry grew up and attended school in Clear Lake, graduating from Clear Lake High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty.  He worked for Mason City Millworks for most of his life before retiring.

Jerry was a member of the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.  He was always an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting in his younger years.  He continued to enjoy the outdoors throughout life by hunting and fishing quite often.

Jerry is survived by four children, Allen (Donna) Kaster, Dale (Cindy) Kaster, Carol Penwell and Michelle Kaster; four grandchildren, Lisa Kaster, Dusty Kaster, Trisha (Bill) Snay and Anthony Kaster; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Rowley; many nieces, nephews and friends; and a daughter-in-law, Deb Kaster.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles “Chuck”; and a brother, Dean.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
