Jewel Lovel Kiefer, 87, of Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa
Memorial services for Jewel will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. Burial will be in Madison Twp. Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Family suggests memorials to Jewel L. Kiefer memorial fund.
Jewel was born May 17, 1928 in Mason City, the daughter of Harry S. and Mabel L. (Yarges) Bundy. She graduated from Mason City High School.
She worked several jobs as an office manager and accountant in Rochester, Minn. and at McClellan Dept. Store, in Mason City. She was also a hostess at several supper clubs including Michaels and Howard Johnsons.
She married Clifford Eugene Kiefer on Dec. 3, 1946, in Mason City. They lived in Forest City and then moved to a farm near Chester, Iowa, where she was a stay at home mom and farmer’s wife. She continued to live on the farm until the farm was struck by a tornado and they moved to Kentucky Ridge, Mason City.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, visiting, shopping, going out to eat and attending auctions. She and her husband loved the many trips to the Minnesota State Fair and Branson, Mo. to attend the shows.
She is survived by her three children, Gary (Dianne) Kiefer, Ottumwa, Iowa, Linda (Jesse) Pate, Clear Lake, and Doug Kiefer, Tempe, Az.; five grandchildren, Kristi (Jeff Reininga) Kiefer, Des Moines, Iowa, Brad Kiefer, Iowa City, Iowa, Nichole (Dan) Stabile, Ottumwa, Iowa, Hollie Pate, Clear Lake, and Jeff Pate, Des Moines; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Mosher, Madison Reininga, Kaylee Reininga, Hayden Reininga, Charlotte Stabile and Evelyn Stabile; three sister-in-laws, Mildred “Millie” Kiefer, Mesa, Az., Francis (Robert) Adams, Forest City, Iowa and Margaret Bundy, Seattle, Wash.; cousins, Richard, Diana and Vicki and lifelong friend, Nick Strange, Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mabel Bundy; husband, Clifford E. Kiefer; son, Jay E. Kiefer; and brothers, Harry Jr. and Rondell “Ron” Bundy.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
