Judy Irene Hakes

Judy Irene Hakes passed away February 2, 2025. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868 on Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Per Judy’s wishes, she was cremated. Any memorials may be addressed to Vance or a charity of your choice.

Judy was born the daughter of Charles Elija Vosburgh and Betty Lou Kasik on November 17, 1945. She attended schools in Mason City. Judy was employed at various jobs in and around the Mason City area. She was a caregiver at heart and at one time had elderly care in her home. In her years she spent time in California but always migrated back to North Iowa. Judy always looked forward to spring so she could get outside and plant flowers. Vance will attest to the fact that she was a very good cook!

Judy married Vance Hakes on Christmas Day in 1992 in California. They lived most of their lives in and around Mason City. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry; son, Terry; daughter, Shelly; step-brother and wife, Steven and Karen Eskildsen; brother-in law, Bruce Hakes, and sister-in-law, Ramona Gustin.

Family members left to cherish her memory are a son, David Schaer of Mason City; stepchildren, Scott  (Tamara) Hakes, Jaime Hakes and Gail (Kim) Hakes; a sister, Sheree (Ray) Squire of Idaho; half-sister, Lori (John) Fank; stepmother, Odella Vosburgh; step-siblings, Larry(Su) Eskildsen, Roger (Jennifer) Eskildsen, David (Patti) Eskildsen as well as Vance’s siblings: Juanita Hakes, Gayle (Harlan) Snow, Virginia (Jerry) Weiland, Kathy (Jim) Holck and Harry (Sue) Hakes. She also leaves behind grandchildren Autumn, Summer, Jordan, Jared, Joshua and Jake; bonus grandchildren Kristen, Megahn, Randy, James, Trevor, Katie, Kolton and Erica. Judy also had five great-grandchildren.
