Lawsuit dismissed against Clear Lake Schools

A civil suit filed by a parent against the Clear Lake School District has been dismissed.

Roxanne Hasfjord filed the lawsuit in September 2014 on behalf of her son, Austin Hasfjord, claiming the school district was negligent in how it handled an injury he received as the result of playing Middle School football.  The lawsuit claimed the district was negligent because it failed to investigate and determine his injury, failed to monitor the injury and failed to limit his subsequent participation in football practices and games.

Hasfjord was seeking unspecified damages on Austin’s behalf for past and future medical expenses, pain, suffering and partial disability.

According to court documents, the Cerro Gordo County District Court suit was dismissed Sept. 17 by the plaintiff without prejudice, meaning it could be refiled.

A trial had been scheduled for March 15, 2016.
