Leonard A. Pals
Leonard Arlon Pals, 82, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, Iowa, with Pastor Rodney Meester officiating. Burial was in Meservey Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the Leonard Pals Memorial Fund.
Leonard was born July 17, 1934, the son of Albert and Ollie Pals, in rural Meservey. He was united in marriage to Wanda Pals on June 30, 1953, at the First Reformed Church parsonage. To this union three children were born, Steven, Darwyn and Tracy.
A graduate of Meservey High School, Leonard began working for Ted Meyer when he was 16 years old. In August of 1953, he started working for Lewis Dorenkamp and after 24 years there, he worked for the Bunnell Agency in Belmond, Iowa. For the last 30 years he has been self-employed as a carpenter contractor in Clear Lake and the surrounding area.
Leonard was a member of the First Reformed Church, in Meservey. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Clear Lake; three children, Steven (Karen) Pals, of Ingleside, Ill., Darwyn (Mary Ann) Pals, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Tracy Kessler, of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Sarah (Jordan) Scales, Michael Pals, Elliott Kessler, Tammy (James) Mason; Bethany Pals, and Austin Kessler; three great-grandchildren, Logan Mason, Anna Scales and Drew Scales; and a brother, Nate Pals, of Meservey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three great-grandchildren, Zoey and Landon Mason, and Huxley Kessler; and two sisters, Norma Reisinger and Jeralynn Haspany.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
